Meet the team!

Isabella Schell

Hi! My name is Isabella Schell and I am a sophomore in high school. I am a single black strip in Taekwondo and I have been homeschooled my whole life. As the daughter of an immigrant, I have always felt a big passion for social reform movement and a greater desire to do my part in driving change in these movements. Some of the movements that I feel most passionately about are the Black Lives Matter and the Me Too Movement. I believe that everyone should have equal rights no matter their gender, race, ethnicity, or age.

Alexandra Farmer

I’m Alexandra Farmer from Silver Spring MD, and I’m going into the 12th grade. I chose the black lives matter movement because while there’s not much out front racism I see the impact of systematic racism in my community and school district.

Avana Kelly

Hi! My name is Avana Kelly. I live in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where I will be attending University School of Milwaukee in the Fall. My hobbies are playing piano, violin, and guitar, and debating. My dream career is to either be a lawyer or a politician one day. I am interested in the Black Lives Matter Movement because of all the events in the summer of 2020 and how it affected my community. I am glad that the Black Lives Matter movement is taken with more seriousness now, because for us to eliminate the social unrest and divide in our country, we must put our full effort into stopping it.

Jayla Moore

My names Jayla Moore and I am 17 years old. I was born in Toronto, Canada and I moved to Bensalem, Pennsylvania when I was 13. As an immigrant and a Black girl in America, the challenges and hardships that people of color face in the U.S. became very apparent to me. In my Triumphs and Tragedies class, we discussed how unequal the life situations and opportunities for people can be, and the challenges that a lot of people face in order to have a better life. From that class and my own personal experiences, I have come to realize that a big way to help others and promote positive societal change is through law and social activism. As social activism increases, discriminatory laws have been repealed and progessive change is starting to happen. I want to be a part of that change and help others, which is why I am strongly considering a future career in law.

Joyce Banjo

Hi. My name is Joyce Banjo. I’m a rising senior. I live in Upper Marlboro, Maryland where I also attend Frederick Douglass High School. My hobbies include playing volleyball, playing the flute, and debating. My dream career is to be a lawyer. I am passionate about the Black Lives Matter Movement because I was inspired by the protest and events of the summer of 2020. I appreciate that now, BLM is being taken seriously and creating long lasting change such as legislation. It is no longer just a protest, but an influential movement. I believe that social justice is an important part of being an American.

Uchechi Mba

Hey! My name is Uchechi Mba and I am a junior at Century High School in Eldersburg, Maryland. I chose to participate in the JTB program because of my goal to become a Civil and Criminal Lawyer and I chose to research the Black Lives Matter topic because I am passionate about diminishing the presence of qualified immunity for police officers.

Laila Dargan

Hi! My name is Laila Dargan and I am a rising sophomore in high school. I have always been an empathetic individual. Thanks to that and my interest in social injustice, I have become very passionate about the Black Lives Matter movement. I see it a step towards the right direction, and I hope it will continue to grow and create change within our society. Ever since high school started, I have had an interest in learning criminal law so I can pursue my dream of becoming an attorney. This is what convinced me to participate in the JTB Program. I think it is essential that we create diversity within not only the law field, but other types of career fields as well.
